FAQ's
The Hair Extensions themselves do not damage your hair. However, low quality Hair Extensions, poor application and lack of proper maintenance can most certainly cause the extensions to damage your hair. It is critical to use high quality Hair Extensions and have them installed and maintained by an experienced extensionist.
We supply many salons nationally and have hundreds of women wearing our hair. We would love you to experience the full effect of Luxx Hair and will gladly refer you to a Luxx stockist and installer. A Luxx stockist will provide you with all the information you need, including how to care for your Luxx Hair extensions to avoid damage.
It’s imperative that your Hair Extensionist does a thorough consultation with you to assess your natural hair type, lifestyle and the current state & health of your hair. There are many methods available and apart from your own natural hair quality, the method also depends on what you are trying to achieve with extensions. People use extensions to create volume, length, texture and colour and choosing the best method will depend on the effect you would like. If you don’t have a trusted Hair Extension Technician, we will gladly do a consultation for you and give you a recommendation and refer you to a Luxx stockist and installer. Please refer to our product page for more detail on the methods we provide.
Your Hair Extensions are not getting the natural oils and nutrients that your own hair would and need allot of love and care. Aftercare products that contain sulphate, parabens, alcohol and or proteins will dry out, harden, shorten and damage your extensions. There are loads of great salon approved retail products on the market and it is best to check with your extensionist. Luxx do not endorse any specific brands as there are way too many to test and verify, despite having a few personal favourites. What is important to us is that you use products that are rich in moisturise to compensate for the lack of natural nutrient. Regular home and in-salon treatments and serums are a must to preserve the moisture which will support the longevity of wear. Luxx stockists and installers are well equipped to guide you correctly and may stock exactly what you need. If you are unsure, you are welcome to contact us for confirmation.
The duration and shelf life of your Hair Extensions depend on several factors including the maintenance of exposure. Luxx Hair extension should last anywhere from 9 months up to 2 years, depending on the colour and aftercare and maintenance. The better you care for your extensions and follow the protocols supplied with every set of Luxx Hair extensions, the longer they will last and serve you well.
Over and above using salon recommended products and treating your hair regularly, there are basic principles that should be applied to your daily living. Very long extensions can get matted and it is recommended that you either braid or put your hair up in a ‘high bun’ when you sleep. Regular brushing with a Hair Extension detangler or brush is best to gently remove knotting. You cannot place a heated straightening or curling iron over the ‘connection point’ as this will damage the bond. Applying heat that exceeds a temperature of 170 degrees is NOT recommended as extension hair is allot more porous than natural hair. It is always best to ensure the bonds are dried immediately after wetting and as much moisture is taken out of the hair to avoid additional weight on the bonds attached to your scalp. Avoid exposing your hair to any harsh extremities and chemicals like chlorine, sun screens, salt water and tanning products for example. If there is expected exposure, use leave in conditioners and protection serums. Aftercare instructions & maintenance should be explained to you by your stylist and you should receive the Aftercare card with instructions supplied by Luxx Hair.
There are a variety of colours available to choose from for the perfect blend. If you want your Hair Extensions to appear natural, it is best to choose the Hair Extension colour that closely resembles your natural hair. If you are using Hair Extensions for a brand-new look like, the natural hair should be coloured to best match your extension selection. Having said this, you can also use Hair Extensions to create depth, movement and or highlights for example. Your Hair Extension Technician can use a combination of our colours to create various effects. To get the best match, an inspiration picture will help your Extensionist choose the correct colour and or mix of colours. Luxx Hair have over 20 colours available that include premixed colours, root smudges and piano colours. If you or your stylist are struggling with a match up, we are available to advise.
Hair Extensions removal is just as important as installing your Luxx Hair correctly. If you have our permanent Hair Extensions and you want your guarantee to remain valid, you need to let the stylist remove your Hair Extensions. They are qualified to do this without damaging your own hair and or Hair Extensions.
As the Hair Extensions are bonded to our natural hair, when the hair grows, it naturally pushes the Hair Extensions down. In order to ‘hide’ the connection, the Hair Extensions need to be removed and replaced to have the original effect. Everyone’s hair growth is different and the faster the hair grows; the more frequent maintenance is needed. On average, maintenance is typically conducted every 6 to 8 weeks with some methods lasting longer. In between your maintenance and re-installation appointments, it is advised to have regular treatments. Your Luxx Hair extensionist will be able to advise the frequency based on a number of factors.
You may want to create long layers and or texturize your hair and you absolutely can! Our Luxx Hair extensions are 100% Remy human hair so your stylist can style as you would your own hair while paying attention to the protocols.
Yes. Ideally, we need you to be as comfortable with your Luxx Hair extensions as you are with your natural hair. It is important to use a hair protector before exposing your hair to the sea or pool as the sea salts and pool chemicals very easily dry the hair out. After exposing your hair to salt or chemicals (which are not good for our natural and or extensions hair), the sooner you can rinse or wash your hair, the better. Ideally, it would be great to have your Luxx Hair treated after a holiday with this type of exposure.
You can easily transform your look with Luxx Hair. Our full, double drawn and silky textured hair comes in an array of colours that can be used to make your hair dreams a reality. Hair Extensions can take some getting used to especially if you go from thin-to-thick or short-to-long. It can take a day or two for the application to settle and the scalp to adjust to the “foreign object”. Ultimately you can expect to feel beautiful! Hair Extensions require more effort than our natural hair so make sure you ask the right questions. If you are unsure, your Hair Extensionist should be able to guide you. We are available to furnish you with tons of information that will be relative to your Luxx Hair needs.
Each installation is unique based on your current length and style which will dictate both the type of method and amount of hair to be installed. A Luxx Hair extension application can take anywhere from 30 minutes right up to 5 hours depending on method and desired effect. Upon consultation, your stylist should be able to give you a really good indication of what you should expect.
